Inversion’s seventh season

Season seven, entitled Reignited, brought even more energy and excitement to audiences with unforgettable collaborations, several sold out performances, merchandise sales, and new faces in Inversion’s artist roster and administrative family. Season Seven featured 31 world premiere performances, more than ever!


Raise a Glass

Inversion’s 50-and-better ensemble Coda opens Inversion’s seventh season “Reignited” with a SOLD OUT concert of reimagined drinking songs entitled “Raise a Glass” on August 5.

Electric Choir

Electric Choir features a “plugged-in” edition of Inversion. This genre-bending concert alternates between new a cappella works and choral works accompanied by electronic tracks and electric instruments. Highlights includes the world premiere of a brand new piece from 2022 KMFA Draylen Mason Composer-in-Residence, Quinn Mason, as well as Shahar Regev, the winner of the Sandra Fivecoat Memorial Composition Competition (35 and under division). In-house composers Adrienne Inglis, Robbie LaBanca, Trevor Villwock, Trevor Shaw, and Marjorie Halloran also have works premiered on the program.

Origins

Inversion's treble chorus, Da Capo, unites the new with the old at their concert, Origins, on Saturday, January 21, 2023.  In collaboration with Pianist Dr. Joseph Choi and Clarinetist Brendan Fairleigh, Da Capo presents new music that is inspired by our collective human history, paying tribute to our roots while forging new artistic paths together. Origins features brand new works by Inversion’s in-house composer Suzette Emberton and local composers Steven Sérpa and Susan Meitz, plus gorgeous favorites by Rosephanye Powell, Karen P. Thomas, and others.

Inversion presents Planet Home, which honors the earth and examines our place in its threatened ecosystem by featuring the soundscapes of Seylon Stills, as well as works by in-house composers Carol Brown, Suzette Emberton, Adrienne Inglis, and Trevor Shaw. Inversion also performs the winning composition Afternoon on a Hill by the Sandra Fivecoat Memorial Emerging Composer Contest (open division) Jeffrey Derus, and pieces by Rich Campbell, Santiago Vero, and Stephen Jackson.

Austin composer Nathan Felix teams up with KMFA Classical to bring his Contemporary Classical Day Party - Unofficial SXSW Showcase to the Draylen Mason Music Studio on Saturday, March 11 from Noon to 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy free music throughout the afternoon by local contemporary classical artists including student performances by The Akins ECHS Sinfonietta Orchestra and Southwestern University student and composer Monroe Aupperlee.
