Managing Director (part-time)
Position Title: Managing Director
Position Overview:
Inversion seeks a dynamic and driven Managing Director to provide strategic leadership and operational management to ensure the financial health, community presence, and organizational sustainability of the organization. This position reports to the organization’s Board of Directors and partners with the Artistic Director in a collaborative leadership model that works to further its mission, artistic vision, strategic goals, and values. The job is primarily remote, with some on-site work required. It is part-time, with approximately 8-12 hours a week. Hours will flex depending on the time of year and concert schedule.
Compensation:
This role is compensated at $12,000 annually. As the organization grows, this position has the potential to expand in both time commitment and remuneration.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the position are preferred but not required to have a Master’s Degree, and MUST reside in Austin or the surrounding area.
Passion for music, interdisciplinary arts, community, and Inversion’s mission.
Experience in nonprofit operations, production, or arts administration, with a proven track record of a collaborative and organized work style.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with donors, sponsors, and arts patrons.
Excellent attention to detail.
Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Familiarity with donor and financial management software is a plus.
Familiarity with software for ticketing (Eventbrite, Zeffy), marketing (Mailchimp), and donor and impact management (Bloomerang, Benevity).
Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events as needed.
Experience with website maintenance (Squarespace) and social media management.
Key Responsibilities:
The Managing Director’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Administrative Leadership
Develop and execute operating strategies, policies, and long-term plans to fulfill the organization’s mission.
Establish the organization’s strategic direction and maintain financial accountability and responsibility in partnership with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors.
Prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure an organizational culture that respects different perspectives and nurtures an environment of empowerment at all levels.
Continue to grow a positive culture and work environment through management and supervision of staff, musicians, and volunteers that support a cohesive, creative, and inclusive work environment.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate administrative staff.
Manage non-artistic operations, including board relations, committee support, and compliance, and serve as lead producer for artistic projects as needed.
Coordinate venue bookings, concert production, transportation, and equipment rental and return (as needed) for performances and rehearsals.
Fiscal Responsibility and Oversight
Manage and lead the development of the annual budget, oversee bookkeeping, handle ticket sales, request and distribute checks, and lead fundraising efforts, ensuring financial health.
Control expenditures, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors, while maintaining the quality of the work, achievement of the mission, and reputation of Inversion.
Establish annual and long-term goals for earned and contributed revenue that ensure the sustainability of Inversion.
Public Engagement, Relationship, and Board Management
Serve as a knowledgeable and passionate external ambassador for Inversion to build trust and credibility.
Cultivate and nurture relationships with individual donors, potential corporate sponsors, foundations, trustees, and other organizations, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors, to support increased contributed revenue.
Support and develop new and ongoing relationships with partners.
In collaboration with the Artistic Director, promote performances and list them in online, print, and social media, and handle press relations.
Oversee logistics for the professional ensembles, which include auditions, communication, and maintaining donor databases.
Serve as the primary liaison between staff, volunteers, and the Board.
