Our 50 and better choir is currently undergoing a name change to better reflect who they are and what they want to be known as. It is an exciting chapter that current (and past members) are voting on.
We shall unveil the new name at the start of the new season!

Inversion’s community chorus is exclusively for singers aged 50 and above who want to:

  • hone their musical chops

  • keep on singing and learning challenging music

  • create music with a group of people who are experiencing vocal changes that come with age.

FAQs

  • There is no audition to participate! It’s a fun, welcoming environment for anyone who loves to sing, willing to put in the time to learn the music, and agree to having an open mind, eager to learn from everyone around them.

  • We recognize that not everyone can read notes, but that shouldn’t be a barrier to music-making. Practice tracks will be made available to help you learn your music, in addition to informing you about some stylistic things and other performance practices.

  • Absolutely! If you’re not able to do the entire year, you can just register either in the summer/fall or in the winter/spring for our 2 major projects.

  • Simply put, because our singers are also coming from other community choirs, and they rehearse on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays. (Wednesdays are church choir rehearsals.) Fridays was the only option left.

  • It is not. We are highy-aware that y’all lead very busy and full lives. Come to rehearsals you’re able to come for! Our only request is that you tell us in advance if there’s a date you’ll be missing.

On this note, rehearsals will not be for note-learning (that will be on your own or c/o practice tracks) but for vocal things and for shaping the music. Please make sure you have your music learned when you attend rehearsals.

  • Absolutely. We can break it up to either of the following:

    • 2 payments

    • 4 payments

If you need to spread it out a bit more, that is also doable. Just let us know! Email Rina Saporsantos at katrina@inversionatx.org. and y’all can sort it out.

ABOUT THE CONCERTS

WANTING MEMORIES (SUMMER/FALL 2026)

On September 5, 2026: Inversion’s community choir for singers aged 50+ will perform a concert called “Wanting Memories.” We all know someone struggling with or has passed away due to complications from cognitive decline; one day is always different from the next, and it is hard both for the person who has it, and their caregivers. “Wanting Memories” is about the desire to remember, the willingness to let go, the acceptance of new realities, and eventually, experiencing healing.

Our Inversion Cares partner for this concert is the Love Notes Chorus, a community choir for people with early-stage memory loss and the caregivers who support them.

TIME AFTER TIME (WINTER/SPRING 2027)

On March 20, 2027, Inversion’s 50 and better choir takes the stage again, presenting “Time After Time”. This nostalgia-forward concert musically encapsulates the passage of time and all the feelings and experiences associated with that. The concert features brand new arrangements of songs from the Golden Age of Music, complete with a jazz band from ATX Artists for Social Impact.

Our Inversion Cares partner for this concert is AGE of Central Texas, an organization that helps older adults and their caregivers thrive as they navigate the realities and opportunities of aging and caregiving.

LAST DAY OF THE SEASON Friday 05/07 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM sneak peek of upcoming season, LAST REHEARSAL DAY

VENUE

All rehearsals will be at St. James’ Episcopal Church (SJEC) on 1941 Webberville Rd, Austin, TX 78721
The Wanting Memories concert will be at St. James’ as well. The venue for Time After Time is very much TBD.

SHEET MUSIC, REHEARSAL TRACKS, SUPPLEMENTARY NOTES

Sheet music and rehearsal tracks will be sent via Dropbox a month before the first rehearsal. We will print copies of music for those singers who request it. If you are using paper copies, please make sure to place your music in a black binder with the inner corners cut off to reduce noise when turning pages. Singers are welcome to use tablets, alternatively, or to print directly from the Dropbox in advance of rehearsal.

Supplementary notes are program notes, the text sans music to give you a better understanding of the context of each song, plus some preliminary notes from the conductor. Please make sure you read them.

FEE

We request a singer fee of $300 prior to the first rehearsal (pay your fee here). This amount covers ALL music for the year, plus some operational and project costs. If you're not in a position to pay the full singer fee but can pay an amount that's in your budget, that’s completely fine, and you can still use that same link. If you are registering per term (Summer/Fall or Winter/Spring), the fee is $150/term.

Please request a fee waiver in the registration form if you are unable to pay the singer fee— we are committed to making choir accessible to everyone! Kindly contact Rina for any questions.

CONCERT ATTIRE

Concert base attire is all black that’s considered relatively “nice.” We’ll also be adding a pop of color (yet to be determined!) such as ties, pocket squares, jewelry, shawls, socks, shoes, etc. We do not subscribe to gender norms, and support all singers in wearing attire that best represents themselves. The goal is to feel and look confident, happy, and proud.

COMMUNICATION

All questions and concerns - attendance, concert, fees, etc - should be addressed directly to me (Rina Saporsantos) at katrina@inversionatx.org. I can’t wait to see you and work with you!
